Spaceship

So I got the day off because everyone is away due to footy.

I’ve been in my room all day trying to think stuff. I need a design for a spaceship prop for a movie by tomorrow. Here’s the brief (I wrote it myself earlier in the year):

Design Brief

 

Client: Solarfilm

 

Solarfilm is producing a science fiction motion picture that will be released in January next year. The film is an action-adventure based on the book Incursion by S.W. Lincoln.

 

Communication need:

 

–          The design for one spacecraft to be used by characters within the movie

–          A poster to be used to promote the movie

 

The ‘Krython Raider’ in the film will be piloted by the antagonistic and barbaric mollusc race called the Krython. The ship must be obviously equipped for military purposes, and must reflect the barbarity of Krythonian culture.

 

The Poster must communicate a sense of adventure to the audience. It is to contain the title ‘Incursion’ and the subtitle ‘based on the book by S.W. Lincoln’. It will be used to advertise the movie, and will be released before the film. The time of the film’s release (January 2015) must therefore be presented on the poster also.

 

Audience:

 

The film will target a wide age bracket, and will be appropriate for a family audience. It is targeting younger rather than older viewers, though is not strictly aimed at younger viewers. Older viewers will still enjoy the film.

The movie is to be designed to bring back the classic style of science fiction film. Older viewers will therefore enjoy the movie, though it aims to bring the style to the new generation.

 

Suggested Final Presentation Format:

 

–          3D prototype and  illustrations of the movie prop to give context

–          Full size A3 poster

So there it is. I’m trying to think of what I’m going to make it out of. I can make it later, I just need to know what I’m going to do by tomorrow. If anyone out there is good at this, please let me know what I can do. I’ve been thinking that I should use Styrofoam or something, which I think I read some guy used to build spaceship models.

After thinking and refining, I think the ship will take on some organic characteristics, just to make it appear more alien. I’ve thought of giving it a rocky, scaly or otherwise fleshy texture on the hull to make it appear almost like a living creature. So I don’t know what kind of materials I would use for such a thing.
